Vol. 6, No. 10

GRADES ARE ON THE WAY
Students received first-quarter grades in advisory meetings on Thursday, October 27. Grades should arrive in your mail by Monday, October 31.

CLEAN-UP DAY IS TOMORROW, OCTOBER 29
A school clean-up day is scheduled for Saturday, October 29, to help make sure that the building is in the best-possible condition for our open house the next day. Work begins at 9:00 am and ends at approximately 1:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to enjoy fellowship with others while sharing time and talents for the betterment of CA-Bloomington. Please plan to lend a hand!

HELP SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT OUR OPEN HOUSE
Our fall open house for prospective students and families is this Sunday, October 30, 2:00-4:00 p.m. You can help ensure a successful event by being intentional in spreading the word about CA-Bloomington and our open house. Parents are our single most effective form of publicity. Your positive words about CA-Bloomington can make a huge difference. Extra open house postcards are available in the front office. Pick up a couple and give them to friends or family members that you would like to see become a part of our community. Thanks for your help in spreading the word about the ministry of CA-Bloomington.

FALL PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES ARE NOV. 3 AND 4
Plan now to meet with your student's teachers on Thursday, November 3 (5:00 - 8:00 p.m.) or Friday November 4 (9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.). Conferences give you 12 minutes with each teacher. Call Marilee Schneider (ext. 109) to schedule times.

PRAYER NIGHT IS OCTOBER 31
Parents and other supporters of CA-Bloomington are uninvited to join the school's Prayer Chain group for a prayer meeting on Monday, October 31 at 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to join others in an intentional time or prayer and praise.

CHAPERONES NEEDED FOR NOVEMBER 4 LATE NITE BASH
We're still looking for additional chaperones for the junior high Late Nite Bash at CA-Bloomington on Friday, November 4, 7:30 p.m. to midnight. If you'd like to help with this fun event, please contact Marilee Schneider.

PARENT HELP NEEDED WITH PROPS FOR LITTLE WOMEN
Director Heather Baker is looking for furniture pieces and props that would appear Civil War era-appropriate for Little Women, the CA-Bloomington fall play (November 11-13). For a list of items that are needed, please download the PDF document at http://www.lutheranhighschool.com/downloads/propscostumes.pdf. Parents interested in helping with set construction and costuming are also needed. If you can be of help in any of these areas, please contact Chris Roth (chris.roth@concordiaacademy.com).

NOVEMBER 11 IS A HALF DAY
Mark your calendars! To accommodate an elementary school matinee of Little Women, school will be dismissed at noon on Friday, November 11.

LITTLE WOMEN RUNS NOVEMBER 11-13
Louisa M. Alcott's beloved novel Little Women comes to life on the Concordia Academy-Bloomington stage on November 11 and 12 at 7:30 p.m. and November 13 at 2:30 p.m. The structure of the play faithfully covers that of the novel, interweaving the lives of the March girls (Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy) and Laurie, the boy next door, as they grow up together during the Civil War era. Admission is $6.00 for adults and $4.00 for students and senior citizens. Advance reservations can be made by calling 952-854-0224, ext. 109, or visiting our web site starting next week.

CA HOSPITALITY COMMITTEE NEEDS HELP WITH FALL CONFERENCE DINNER ON NOV. 3
-Who are we? Volunteer parents
-What is our plan? To provide dinner for the teachers during conferences. We will follow a Mexican Fiesta theme for dinner and an Autumn theme for the decorations. During this busy time for the staff, having dinner provided gives them the opportunity to relax with each other as a group and enjoy a meal they don't have to make or plan. We need to plan for a dinner for about 20 people. This includes volunteers who may also be there.
-Why are we doing this? To say thank you to the staff of Concordia Academy-Bloomington for all they do during the year. The staff will really appreciate the committee's effort and truly enjoys all the yummy dishes and treats.
-How can you help? Please call Linda Freeding 952-953-9237 if you are willing to contribute food, paper products, decorations or to volunteer to set up or clean up.

SENIOR PARENTS MEET ON NOVEMBER 14
Senior parents: do you know what is happening in 173 days? The senior class party, and...oh yea...our sons and daughters graduate from high school. Although 173 days may seem like a long time, planning this event will take a lot of time and effort on everyone's part, and it will be here before we know it. Please plan on attending a meeting on November 14th at 7:00 p.m. to begin planning of this event. We would like a volunteer to coordinate this event, and many others to help out where needed. Thank you. -John Venzke

FALL SPORTS BANQUET IS NOVEMBER 20
All parents and athletes in a fall sport should watch their mailboxes for the invitation to the Fall Sports Banquet. After receiving the invitation, please RSVP at your earliest convenience so the Booster Club can plan the amount of food needed. This year the banquet will be held at CA-Bloomington. The date for the event will be November 20, 2005 at 5:00 p.m., and the cost will be $7.00 per person.

CANDY MAKING CONTINUES
We have made Turtles, Layered Mints, Peppermint Crunch, and Peanut Clusters, but there are still lots of empty boxes to fill. Can you help us fill those boxes? The work is easy and the sales proceeds will be used to make CA-Bloomington a better place for our children. Remaining candy-making dates are November 1, 3, 7, and 8 in the school cafeteria starting at 6:30 p.m. and ending around 9:30 p.m. On Saturday, November 5, the candy making will start at 9:00 a.m. and go to noon. Parents and students are welcome to help. If you can help, please call Debbie Heggemeier at 952-844-0128 or e-mail her at debheg@att.net. You can also call Terri Riehm at 952-835-4450.

BARNES & NOBLE FUNDRAISER IS DECEMBER 19
Mark your calendars! Once again this year, up to 25% of your purchases at the Galleria Barnes & Noble in Edina can go towards CA-Bloomington. Just shop there on December 19, and turn in the special voucher (available at www.lutheranhighschool.com/bookfair) when you check out. This is a great chance to take care of Christmas shopping and support CA-Bloomington at the same time. Questions? Call the school at 952-854-0224.

COLLEGE PLANNING MEETINGS COMING IN NOVEMBER
-Monday, November 7 and Thursday, November 17 - College Funding (sponsored by Thrivent Financial) at 7:00 p.m. at CA-Bloomington. This session is offered on two different dates and focuses on investment strategies, education tax credits, and loans and savings vehicles.
-Tuesday, November 15 - College Planning, at 7:00 p.m. at CA-Bloomington. Brian Peterson of Hamline University will share what classes to take while still in high school, how and when to complete applications, when to make college visits, what makes students more likely to be accepted at a college and what schools are looking for, and an overview of what CA will do to help prepare students for career/college planning. This session is primarily for parents of 9th and 10th grade students, but all parents are welcome.

NEWS FROM PHYL
Kwik Trip stores have added another program opportunity for us. They call it "Donuts to Dough." We will receive 10 cents for every price oval from Glazers Dozen Donuts and Glazers Half-Dozen Donuts. They will continue to give us 5 cents for every Milk Moola cap and bag top. Now we have something to dunk in our milk or juice. From today until January 31, 2005 Campbells is having a holiday double-bonus offer. Condensed cream soups (such as cream of mushroom, cream of celery etc), all Campbells gravies, and all Swanson broths are worth 2 points per label. Thanks to everyone who has helped by donating redeemables; we've met our first goal of the year: ordering a new electronic keyboard. -Phyl Mueller

MOMS IN TOUCH MOMENT
This past Wednesday Moms in Touch prayed about God being our hope. We also prayed that the God of hope would fill our children with all joy and peace as they trust in him, so that they may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13). If you have a moment you might pray the same for your child. Any mom available is welcome to join Moms in Touch on Wednesday mornings to pray at 9:00 a.m. in the school conference room. -Debbie Heggemeier and Moms in Touch International
