Concordia
Academy-Bloomington Update for September 2, 2005
Vol. 6, No. 2
NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY
In honor of Labor Day, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 5.
RELIEF FROM HURRICANE KATRINA
This quarter's chapel offerings will go to the American Red Cross, and CA-Bloomington
students have been challenged to step forward in contributing in a major
way towards relief for all those so severely affected by Hurricane Katrina.
The conditions at the Lutheran high school in New Orleans are unknown at
this time, but we do know that the adjacent church and the gymnasium have
been flooded by up to five feet of water. According to Ron Royuk, principal
at the school, some of the students will be attending the three Lutheran
high schools in the Houston area, but, he notes, "I don't know where
they [the students] all are right now." If parents or friends also want
to contribute to this effort, checks may be made out to Concordia Academy-Bloomington
(with Hurricane Katrina and either "Red Cross" or "New Orleans
LHS" in the memo line), and the final amount will be sent on. Please
continue to keep everyone in this area in your prayers.
ASCENDING PRAISE SEEKS HURRICANE RELIEF DONATIONS
Members of Ascending Praise Church, the congregation that worships at CA-Bloomington,
will be going to New Orleans next Tuesday morning to bring assistance and
supplies to those they can reach. Anyone wanting to contribute
items for this effort may bring them to the school Saturday, Sunday, or Monday
from 9:00-3:00. Especially needed are: canned food, diapers, children's clothes,
bottled water, and medical and first aid supplies. If you have any questions,
contact Pastor Linus Nyambu at 952-220-2343.
GOURMET FOODS
FUNDRAISER CONTINUES
Support the classes at CA-Bloomington and enjoy gourmet meats, soups, cheesecakes,
breakfast items, and cookies at the same time. Through September 6, students
are taking orders for the above items, with proceeds going to the freshman,
sophomore, junior, and senior class funds. (Students who sell items that
total $50 or more do not have to pay their $25 class dues.) Payment is
due at the
time of the order. To order these great, high-quality items, contact any
student. Items will be delivered in late September.
PLAN NOW FOR JOINT
WORSHIP, CONCORDIA
CONNECTION
On Sunday, September 18, 2005, Concordia Academy will host two events to
mark the integration of Concordia Academy-Roseville and Concordia Academy-Bloomington.
The Concordia Connection is the symbolic run marking the integration of
the two schools. At 11:00 a.m. on Sept. 18, the run will begin at the Roseville
school and it will finish at the Bloomington school. Participants can choose
to run a three or four mile leg of the distance, or may choose to complete
the entire route, which is under 20 miles. There will also be a one-mile
run
at the end of the event. If you would like to participate or volunteer
at
one of the stations, please email Shelley Novotny, Concordia Academy Director
of
Communications, or phone her at 651-484-8429, ext. 108. There is no cost
to participate and all runners will receive a Concordia Connection T-shirt.
At
3:00 p.m., a service celebrating the integration will be held in the Dan
Reuss Memorial Gym at Concordia Academy-Bloomington. Rev. Brendan Prigge
(LHS '83)
will preach and Rev. Tim Berner (CA '85) will assist. Student musicians
from both schools will perform. All members of the Concordia Academy community
are invited to attend as we celebrate God's faithfulness to Lutheran education
in the Twin Cities.
SPORTS PHOTOS ARE TUESDAY
Fall athletes: don't forget that fall sports pictures will be taken Tuesday,
September 6, after school.

HAPPENINGS BOOKS
AVAILABLE
Happenings Books are on sale in the office for $30. Families that purchase
or sell five books get one book free. Proceeds go to support Debby,
the Compassion International child sponsored by CA-Bloomington.
ACT PREP
COURSE REGISTRATION
IS TUESDAY
The deadline to register for the fall ACT Prep Course is September
6. (Information was sent home in the summer mailing.) The cost for
the four-session
class
is $105, running September 12 through October 3, just in time for
the first ACT
test of the fall. Registration for the ACT test can be done by paper
copy (available in the Student Services office) or by going online
at www.ACT.org.
GET READY FOR FRUITCAKE BAKING AND CANDY MAKING
The fruitcake baking and candy making will be starting in October. This is
a great fundraiser sponsored by PFA (Parents/Friends Association). All money
raised is put back into the school, making Concordia Academy-Bloomington
a better place for our students. It is also a great way to meet other parents.
So, please watch the weekly email update for future articles and be prepared
to volunteer to help make these items to be sold in area churches and at
school events.
NEWS FROM PHYL
We have just enrolled in a new program called "Milk Moola". It is
sponsored by Kwik Trip stores. Please bring in the bottle cap with the sticker
on it or the top of the plastic bag that says "Milk Moola". Eligible
products include milk, flavored milk, orange juice, orange-pineapple juice,
drinking water, egg nog, Chino Iced Cappuccino, Iced Tea, and 3 varieties of
fruit drinks. If you would like a more complete list please check my web pages.
We receive 5 cents for every label and bottle
cap (just like for Kemps and Land O' Lakes).–Phyl Mueller
MOMS IN TOUCH
It's once again time to put together a praying group of moms for this school
year at Concordia Academy. Are you interested in being part of such a group?
Moms meet together for one hour a week at school or in homes to pray for
the school, staff, students, and all the events happening at CA-Bloomington.
I am currently looking into starting one or two groups depending on the interest.
There is a possibility of a daytime group at school during school hours or
an evening group meeting in someone's home. If you are interested and I haven't
talked to you, please call Debbie Heggemeier at (952) 844-0128 or e-mail
me at debheg@att.net. I hope to have
the groups started in the next couple
of weeks!
