Concordia
Academy-Bloomington Update for September 1, 2006
Vol. 7, No. 2
NO SCHOOL
ON MONDAY
Don't forget that there will no school on Monday, September4 (Labor Day).
School resumes on September 5. Have a great three-day weekend!
GOURMET
FOODS FUNDRAISER CONTINUES
Support the classes at CA-Bloomington and enjoy gourmet meats, soups,
cheesecakes, and cookies at the same time. Students
are taking orders for the above items, with proceeds going to the
freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior class funds. (Students who sell
items
that total $50 or more do not have to pay their $25 class dues.)
Payment is
due at the
time of the order, and students need to run order form in to their
class advisors by September 6. To order these great, high-quality items, contact
any student. Items will be delivered in late September.
BOOSTER CLUB ACTIVITY DAY IS SEPT. 9
Booster Club is scheduling another Activity Day on Saturday September 9, 8:30
a.m. - noon. Work to be done includes the following: finish the bleacher
project/rocking around concession stand, clean and seal
tile in front entrance to gym & restrooms, edge sidewalks in front and
back of building (including the gym section), trim bushes in front, tear down
and move old press box, cut up branches for post-football game bonfires, and
do general sprucing
up for Concordia Connection and Ice Cream Social and the Fall Open House. Booster
club needs as many people as possible to help, so they
can have "teams"
to do
the projects with a leader to direct each group. Even if you can only
donate one or two hours and not the whole time, Booster Club can still can
use your
talents and abilities. Thanks in advance for your help!
HAPPENINGS BOOKS

Happenings coupon books are available for $30 from the front office. They
include thousands of dollars of discounts and special offers. Profits from
the sales go to support Debby, our Compassion International child. Students
can earn a free book if they sell 5 books. Questions? Contact Marilee Schneider.

CONCORDIA CONNECTION AND ICE CREAM SOCIAL IS SEPTEMBER 17
On Sunday, September 17, 2006, Concordia
Academy will host The Second Annual Concordia
Connection, the symbolic run marking the shared educational
ministry of Concordia
Academy-Roseville and Concordia Academy-Bloomington.
At 11:00 a.m., the run will begin at the
Roseville school, and it will finish at the Bloomington
school. Participants can choose to run a three
or four mile leg of the distance, or may choose to complete
the entire route which is under 20 miles. There
are four stations along the way where runners can start
or end. For those wanting to complete a shorter distance, there will be
a one-mile run at the end of the event. Those participants will
run from Portland Avenue and
American Blvd. to the school in Bloomington. From 1:00-3:00 p.m., CA-Bloomington’s
Booster Club will sponsor an ice
cream social with ice cream from Schwann’s. Enjoy music from the CA-Bloomington
band and choir as you visit with old friends and meet new ones. Don’t worry...you
don’t have to run to enjoy ice cream and fellowship! All students,
association church members, families and friends are invited to attend.
Thrivent Financial
for Lutherans has generously designated $7000 of matching funds for this
event. Watch for details in the next couple of weeks about sponsoring runners.
Contact
Shelley Novotny (952-854-0224, ext. 111, or shelley.novotny@concordiaacademy.com)
if you would
like to participate
in this run or volunteer at one of the stations. There is no cost to participate
and all runners will receive a Concordia Connection t-shirt.
HOT LUNCH BEGINS ON SEPT. 5
Hot lunch (through Bloomington
public schools) will be available starting September
5. Remember that hot lunch must be ordered in
advance; lunch menus and order forms are available from the front office.
Parent volunteers
are
still
needed
to
assist with serving lunch on a daily
basis. Please contact Lynn Henry at lynn.henry@concordiaacademy.com is
you are able to help either on a short-term or long-term basis.
NEWS FROM PHYL
Please save and bring in the following:
-Panels that say "Project A+" from Tyson products
-Used cell phones and batteries
-Used inkjet and laser cartridges
-Bottle caps and logos (from cartons) - Kemps, Land O' Lakes, Milk Moola
-Boxtops for Education
-Campbells "Labels for Education"
Please note that we now need UPC bar codes from the labels instead of
the front
panel of the label. Also please note that we need to collect the lids from ALL
Prego sauces and V8 drinks (vegetable, Splash, Fusion). If it is more convenient
for you to send in the complete label, feel free to do so.
This school year we will receive five bonus points for:
-Specially marked cans of condensed soups (26 varieties have the special UPC
code)
-All microwavable soups (Chunky, Select, Soup at Hand BOWLS)
-Soup To Go TUBS
-Supper Bakes
-Goldfish Crackers
-V8 Splash lids
Our first Campbells goal is to "purchase" Reading Rods. This will help
our Spanish students to learn to build sentences. We are only 1,666 points away.
