Concordia
Academy-Bloomington Update for August 26, 2005
Vol. 6, No. 1
WELCOME TO CONCORDIA ACADEMY-BLOOMINGTON
The 2005-2006 school year got off to a fun-filled start on Tuesday, August
23, with devotions, class meetings, mini-classes, games, and a cookout.
As Lutheran High School becomes Concordia Academy-Bloomington, please pray
that it will be a Spirit-filled year of transformation and growth! This
weekly email will be sent on Fridays in which school is in session. Special
editions will be sent as needed.
TRANSFORMED!
Student council selected “Transformed” as the 2005-2006 theme.
The theme is based on Romans 12:2: “Do not conform to the patterns of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of you mind." The logo
(viewable at www.lutheranhighschool.com) emphasizes transformation in Christ
through the color red, gradients, and elements of both the Concordia Academy
logo and the LHS “Rooted in the Word” logo.
PARENTS BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT IS MONDAY
Parents are encouraged to attend Back-to-School Night on Monday, August
29, starting at 7:00 pm. Parents will follow their students’ schedules through
abbreviated class periods. This is an important opportunity to meet teachers,
learn about classes, and become informed about expectations. Please plan to
attend.
BACK TO SCHOOL DANCE IS TONIGHT
The Back to School Dance is tonight, August 26, 8:00 – 11:00 p.m. in
the old gym, featuring Matt LaMeyer (DJ). The Last Holiday, a local band featuring
CA-Bloomington student Dan Noethe, will open up. Guests must be signed up by
noon on Friday, and attendees must be at the dance by 9:00 p.m. or they don't
get in. Remember that the school dress code applies to dances! Ride arrangements
for after the dance should be made in advance and students are encouraged to
leave promptly. Cost is $5 and a can of food for the VEAP food shelves.
SCHOOL PICTURES ARE AUGUST 31
School portraits will be taken Wednesday morning, August 31. Picture
forms were included in packets at Parent Orientation Night and will
also be available
at Monday's Parents Back-to-School Night. Forms are also available
in the front office.
GOURMET FOODS FUNDRAISER BEGINS
Support the classes at CA-Bloomington and enjoy gourmet meats, soups,
cheesecakes, breakfast items, and cookies at the same time. Through
September 6, students
are taking orders for the above items, with proceeds going to the
freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior class funds. (Students who sell
items
that total $50 or more do not have to pay their $25 class dues.)
Payment is
due at the
time of the order. To order these great, high-quality items, contact
any student. Items will be delivered in late September.
WEB AND EMAIL
UPDATES
Currently, the Concordia Academy-Bloomington web site is still located
at www.lutheranhighschool.com. We will let you know as soon as the
site shifts
to be a part of the www.concordiaacademy.com domain. However, school email addresses have changed and now end
with concordiaacademy.com (for example, walt.adams@concordiaacademy.com).
The first part of the addresses
is the same as in previous years (firstname.lastname).
PLAN NOW FOR JOINT WORSHIP, CONCORDIA CONNECTIONS
On Sunday, September 18, 2005, Concordia Academy will host two
events to mark the integration of Concordia Academy-Roseville and
Concordia Academy-Bloomington. The Concordia Connection is the
symbolic run marking the integration of the two schools. At 11:00
a.m. on Sept. 18, the run will begin at the Roseville school and
it will finish at the Bloomington school. Participants can choose
to run a three or four mile leg of the distance, or may choose
to complete the entire route, which is under 20 miles. There will
also be a one-mile run at the end of the event. If you would like
to participate or volunteer at one of the stations, please email
Shelley Novotny, Concordia Academy Director of Communications,
or phone her at 651-484-8429, ext. 108. There is no cost to participate
and all runners will receive a Concordia Connection T-shirt. At
3:00 p.m., a service celebrating the integration will be held in
the Dan Reuss Memorial Gym at Concordia Academy-Bloomington. Rev.
Brendan Prigge (LHS '83) will preach and Rev. Tim Berner (CA '85)
will assist. Student musicians from both schools will perform.
All members of the Concordia Academy community are invited to attend
as we celebrate God's faithfulness to Lutheran education in the
Twin Cities.
YEARBOOKS HAVE ARRIVED
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors received their yearbooks on Tuesday.
Members of the Class of 2005 and other students who did not return
this year may
pick up their yearbook from the front office during regular office
hours.
PLANNERS HANDED OUT
All students received student planners on Wednesday, August 24.
These planners have the CA-Bloomington handbook printed in
the front and
include daily
calendar spaces to allow students to record assignments and
other important info.
Encourage your students to use these valuable tools.
ACT PREP COURSE REGISTRATION DEADLINE NEARS
The deadline to register for the fall ACT Prep Course is September
6. (Information was sent home in the summer mailing.) The
