Concordia
Academy-Bloomington Update for April 28, 2006
Vol. 6, No. 33
SCHOOLHOUSE
ROCK LIVE STARTS TONIGHT!
Over 400 elementary school students have already seen it...now it's YOUR TURN.
A pop culture phenomenon comes to the CA-Bloomington stage THIS WEEKEND (April
28-30) in Schoolhouse Rock Live! This musical is based on the Emmy Award-winning
1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math, science,
and politics through clever, tuneful songs like “Unpack Your Adjectives,” "Conjunction
Junction," "Just A Bill," "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly," and “Interplanet
Janet.” The show is directed by Sara Kampf Neel and Robin Martens. Children
just discovering the TV series to “Generation X-ers” seeking a taste
of nostalgia will delight in this all-ages musical that’s simply good,
clean—and educational—fun. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on April
28 and 29 and 2:30 p.m. on April 30. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for
students and senior citizens. CA-Bloomington students are admitted at no charge.
Reservations can be made online by going to http://www.lutheranhighschool.com/lhsevents/schoolhouserock.cfm.
MID-QUARTER
GRADES ARE IN THE MAIL
Mid-quarter grades were given to students during advisory meetings
on Tuesday, April 25, and students also received detailed progress
reports in all classes.
Mid-quarter grades were mailed to parents on Wednesday. Please watch
for them!

PROGRAM EXPANSION AT CA-BLOOMINGTON
Concordia Academy-Bloomington has begun
preliminary investigations towards adding a junior high or middle school program
to the school's program, possibly for the fall of 2007. Last night, April 28,
representatives of four association schools met with members of the school
administration and the Executive Council to discuss the potential of this
proposal for Concordia's
ministry. It was a positive discussion with many good questions. The next step
will be feasibility survey sent to families in our association schools;
the survey will gather data on each family's areas of interest in choosing
a school for their junior-high aged children and their interest in a specific
junior high program connected to the high school. For more information on this
element of Concordia Academy's strategic plan, feel free to contact Lynn Henry,
Principal, at lynn.henry@concordiaacademy.com or 952-854-0224, ext. 319. Please
keep this process in your prayers as we seek the Lord's will in building this
area of ministry.
PFA SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS
The Parents/Friends Association needs your help. Several positions on the PFA
Board will be open for the 2006/2007 school year, including Chair, Secretary/Publicity,
and Receptions Coordinator. The jobs are very rewarding and not a lot of
work. The main job of the PFA board is deciding how to spend the money earned
from the various fundraisers throughout the year. If you would be willing
to serve please contact Vicki Dice at 952-972-9728 or Lynn Henry, principal,
at 952-854-0224, ext. 319.
TIME'S
RUNNING OUT FOR YEARBOOK STUDENT
SALUTES
It's time to purchase "Student Salutes" for your student.
These ads run in the back of the yearbook and are a great chance
for parents, relatives,
and friends to honor a CA-Bloomington student with a photo and
brief message. While the ads are typically placed for seniors, they may
be
placed for
students at any grade level. Ads cost $40. Information was sent
with third quarter
grades. You can also download a form at http://www.lutheranhighschool.com/downloads/StudentSalute2006.pdf.
Questions? Contact Chris Roth.
SUMMER CAMPS AVAILABLE FOR 6TH-9TH GRADERS
Lancer Summer Camps offer a unique opportunity for students who love sports to
develop their God-given talents, enjoy fellowship with old and new friends,
and grow as athletes. Campers must be entering Grades 6-9 in the 2006-2007
school year. This year's camp opportunities include boys and girls soccer, boys
basketball, girls basketball, girls softball, and girls volleyball. For complete
information and a downloadable brochure, go to www.lutheranhighschool.com/lhsevents/summercamps.cfm.

FROM THE NURSE
There are seven
confirmed cases of mumps in Minnesota and a mumps outbreak in Iowa. For accurate
information
regarding mumps, please go to the Minnesota Department of Health web site at
www.health.state.mn.us. Look at the sidebar under hot topics and click on "Mumps." As
usual, the best prevention of the spread of mumps is good hand washing and
covering
coughs. Thanks. -Trudi Woodard RN HSA
NEWS FROM PHYL
-Would anyone like to purchase a new non-fiction book for the library? Prices
range from $22 - $30. I would be happy to share the list of titles with
you if you wish.
-Would you please ask your son or daughter if there are any
soup
labels, boxtops, cartridges that are hiding in the locker. Do you have
any of these items in your home? It is especially urgent that I receive the boxtops
by Monday, May 1. As of April 29 we have 1648 boxtops which means PFA will receive
$82. 40. This is what was collected in JUST the 4th quarter. -Phyl Mueller
MOMS IN TOUCH MOMENT
Kindness is the Fruit of the Spirit that we prayed about this week. For our
children we prayed that they "be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave them." (Ephesians
4:32) We also prayed that God would protect our children from the lies
they hear and see on TV and the movies. We prayed that he would protect
our children from the evils available through the Internet. And we prayed
for wisdom as parents as we teach our children to make Godly choices. If
you have a moment, you might pray the same for your child. -Debbie Heggemeier
