Concordia Academy-Bloomington Update for April 20, 2007
Vol. 7, No. 32

WITH ONE HEART
We are pleased to announce that at last night's joint delegates' meeting of The Lutheran High School Association of Greater Minneapolis (CA-Bloomington) and The Lutheran High School Association of St. Paul (Roseville), the two groups voted to become one association: The Concordia Academy Association of Schools. What does this mean for you? Once the merger process is formalized with the State of MN, our association name will be changed as noted and the Roseville campus will be formally known as Concordia Academy-Roseville. Many of you have watched and helped with this process over the last several years. We thank you, and above all, we give God the glory for allowing us to keep His ministry alive at two schools! Please keep both schools in your prayers.

"HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL" IS HERE!
Tonight's (April 20) performance of "High School Musical" at CA-Bloomington is SOLD OUT, but there are still two chances to catch our production of the stage version of the smash-hit Disney Channel movie. Chad, Taylor, Ryan, Sharpay, Troy, Gabriella, and all your other High School Musical favorites will come to life again on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for students and senior citizens. Tickets for CA-Bloomington students and staff are free. ("Best In The House" reserved seats are sold out.) Reservations for this production are strongly recommended. To make reservations online, click here or go to www.concordiaacademy.com, click on "Bloomington," and then click on the "High School Musical" logo. Almost a third of the CA-Bloomington student body is a part of this production. The show is directed by Heather Wydeven and Robin Martens.

APRIL 23 IS A HALF DAY
Monday, April 23, is a half-day of school. The morning will be devoted to a student council-sponsored service project; students will visit area nursing homes. School will be then be dismissed at noon.

NEXT WEEK IS MID-QUARTER
Students will receive mid-quarter progress reports in advisory meetings next week. Watch for those grades to arrive in your mailboxes early the week of April 30.

ALL-SCHOOL PANORAMIC PHOTO IS APRIL 25
The all-school panoramic photo will be taken by Lifetouch on April 25 after lunch. These large, laminated photos measure 8 inches by 24 inches and are a fantastic remembrance of the school year. Cost to purchase the photo is $16, and order forms and payment are due by April 25. Order forms will be distributed to students early next week and are also available from the front office. Checks and completed order forms can be turned in to Marilee Schneider in the front office.

SALAD LUNCHEON IS APRIL 28
It has been a long standing tradition at Concordia Academy-Bloomington for PFA to hold an annual Salad Luncheon, Quilt Auction, and Style Show as a major fundraiser to support our students and school. Last year, we raised over $5700 at this event. This money is then used to purchase items such as TVs for each classroom, updated books and equipment per teachers' requests, new lunch tables, and new carpet and chairs in the media center. This year's Salad Luncheon is scheduled for Saturday, April 28, starting at 11:00 a.m. In past years, each grade was assigned a particular type of salad to be donated by each student's family (i.e. freshman - fruit salad, sophomore - vegetable salad, etc.). We are very aware of how busy everyone is these days, and would like to try something new this year. Instead of asking you to prepare and bring a salad to school the morning of the event, we would like to offer each family to support this fundraiser by purchasing one ticket to this event. If you are unable to use it, may we suggest giving your ticket to someone who may be a prospective family for CA-Bloomington? Tickets cost $10 and are available in the school office. Thank you much for your consideration. Tickets may be purchased this week from Marilee in the school office. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call Colleen Larson, Salad Luncheon Coordinator, at 651-405-8788.

CALL ACCEPTED
CA-Bloomington is pleased to announce that Mrs. Julie Reid has accepted the Call to be teacher of grades 7-8 in the school's new junior high program. Mrs. Reid, who will also teach part-time in the high school English program, is currently principal and 7th and 8th grade teacher at St. Peter's in Edina.

CALL EXTENDED
A Call has been extended to Mr. Glenn Rollins to be principal of CA-Bloomington, beginning with the 2007-08 school year. Mr. Rollins is currently principal of Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he has served since 2000. Prior to that he was principal and executive director at Luther High School East in Lansing, IL (near Chicago), and also served here at Lutheran High School from 1989-1995 as social studies teacher and dean of students. Please keep Glenn and his family in your prayers as he considers this Call.

BASKETBALL PARENTS MEETING ON APRIL 23
It's already time to start planning for the 2007-2008 boys basketball season. The coaching staff would like to keep you informed about the off-season workouts and our summer plans. A parent meeting will be held on Monday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m. and should not last more than an hour. The meeting will take place in Mr. Bentz’ room (212). Items on the agenda include summer opportunities (lifting/gym time), camps for grade schoolers, Shootathon fundraiser, Davanni’s fundraiser, high school camp, and Twins game fundraiser.

FACES OF GRACE HOME PERFORMANCE ON MAY 4
Faces of Grace, CA-Bloomington's drama ministry team, is spending much of the winter and spring performing at area churches and schools. However, if you haven't caught them yet this year, you'll have a chance on Friday, May 4, when they hold a "home performance" at CA-Bloomington at 7:00 p.m. There is no admission charge, though a freewill offering will be taken. The show is one-hour in length, and a reception will be held after the performance. Faces of Grace takes Biblical parables and puts modern spins on them, bringing the Gospel to life through drama, comedy, music, and dance. This year's stories include The Littlest Part; The Prodigal Son; The Good Samaritan; The Unforgiving Servant; Jonah and the Whale; and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Don't miss this great opportunity to see students sharing God's word in a unique, meaningful, entertaining way.

OPEN HOUSE ON APRIL 24
On Tuesday, April 24, at 7:00 p.m., Concordia Academy-Bloomington will be host an open house for prospective students and their families. At 7:00, a presentation will give an overview of the school, including the addition of 7th and 8th grades in 2007! A Q&A session with several staff members will follow, and student-led tours of the building will be available. Thank you for helping spread the word to others!

FINANCIAL AID DEADLINE IS MAY 1
The second and final deadline for financial aid applications for 2007-08 is Tuesday, May 1. Please contact Marilee Schneider in the Main Office for more information and to request applications.

SALUTE YOUR STUDENT IN THE YEARBOOK
Information regarding yearbook Student Salute ads is being sent home with third quarter grades. These ads give family members and friends a chance to include a special photo and surprise message for their special student(s) in the 2007 yearbook. These ads cost $40. In addition, seniors received information about their "Senior Blocks" this week. Purchasing a senior block for $40 gives them the chance to have a quarter of a page in the senior section with color photos and text of their choice. Senior Blocks were due March 28. Students who have not turned them in yet need to do so by April 11. Student Salutes are due May 4. For more information, contact Chris Roth (ext. 311 or chris.roth@concordiaacademy.com).
